Can’t you autocross a convertible?

It’s called a rollbar.
Also, you should be able to autocross it given that Miatas are doing the same with no protection what so ever.

What year is yours? My mother owns a ‘66 hardtop.

Topless?
You got rid of the 70 Grabber?
I missed something important here.

You could add a rollbar; then the only thing you’d be barred from racing would probably be rally, since they require a permanent fixed roof.

Be sure to get the real deal. Welded to the unibody or nothing. The bolt on ones look cool, but are worthless for rollover protection.

There are roll bars, but I think they look silly, and it’s also more welding for a car that isn’t done yet. :(

The convertible has a bit of a long story, but it was a ‘65 coupe that has been converted to a ’66 convertible.
289 2-barrel, 3-speed, 2.79 rear end with the clutch-pack LSD. It’s not the fastest Mustang, but I love it all the same.

Need to get it finished first; plus, I believe the roll bars look out of place on 1st Gen Mustangs

Nope, still have both. But the ‘70 has not been touched in sometime. It’s maddening, but I need to get some life stuff straightened out before I can really dive in.

They do, and they’re relatively awfully easy to get. But there’s a story here in which it was a ‘65 coupe converted to a ‘66 convertible. My father in his younger days 25ish years ago, decided to weld 3/8 inch box frame as a sub frame connector and then 1/4 to the rockers. The thing is Solid with a capital “S”, but probably a few hundred pounds heavier.

I might, but do I want to? Having to prepare it that much farther (for an activity I’m not that good at, honestly). There may be a chance with the ‘70, however...

Also fun fact, those cars (if both V8s) are in the same class for SCCA. GUESS WHICH ONE WINS.

Haha, yeah see that’s the fun part. It started life as a 6-cylinder. It’s a bit of a Frankenstein in that department now. The engine is a 302 out of an 80's Thunderbird. The transmission is a 3 speed auto out of something else that I can’t remember.

Really? That sounds interesting. Did you convert it or was it already done when you bought it?

Right after the ‘16 model came out I wanted to take mom’s '66 by the local Ford dealer to take some pictures of both together. Thought it would be kinda cool.

My father can sometimes be an ambitious man. He bought the hardtop w/V8 for $500 and was given a convertible with an I6 (but completely rusted through; like the car visibly buckled if you sat in it).
Never exactly knew what possessed him, but he chopped off the top and dropped the mechanisms into where they needed to go, using original I6 as a reference. Then it sat since I was born and we moved to a house that was in constant need of repair. This year was the first in twenty six years that it’s been insured and driven. And now it sits again :/
